If you weren't up on Patagonian Rats last year, here's the long and short of it: It was probably one of the more eclectic and ambitious efforts of the latter part of the year. Sargent House just released the first track from Tera Melos' upcoming EP, and I'm excited that the band's wasting very little time putting something new together. They also have a full tour lined up with six-string virtuoso Marnie Stern all set up. Tera Melos is slippery and difficult to pin down. One second I'm jarred left of center and the next I'm completely shaking my ass. They blend electro pop with assaulting punk riffs and then back again with looping fragmentation. This first track, "Manar the Magic" is a video game blipped out frenzy of sound with a juxtaposition of completely careening noise and oppositionally soothing vocal haunts. I'm excited to see where this goes next. If the inclusion of Mike Watt for a short cameo on the track isn't enough to raise your eybrows, there are probably other blogs to go check out. This song is an earful and well worth your attention. I can't think of a better pairing for Marnie Stern's highwire guitar energy. Look for the EP, Zoo Weather, to hit the ether on February 22nd, but it is cassette only and limited to 500 copies (although each comes with a free digital download of all 6 songs).
